HARRODS X Katie Larmour Linen 'Bugs!' (part 1)

Well… I am extremely excited to tell you all about my collaborative collection with Harrods this year. It has been 8 months in the making - full of designing, sampling, sourcing even more gorgeous linens, new colours and finding special rolls. It is crazy to think work was underway for this even before last Christmas. I am so thrilled that they noticed my work and was delighted to create 20 pieces for them that fit into their unique themes for 2025. The project took me out of my comfort zone - using even brighter and bolder colours, and some pieces even covering the entire front of the design in embellishment which is new for me as my signature style is dainty amounts thread and dashes of beading  on top of very visible linen (of course the backs are still covered in Irish Linen as usual too and so is still on full display). A portion of the designs were selected from my already existing designs and so I increased the scale and added even more sparkle to make them deluxe versions and exclusive to the store. The brief and mood board I was sent was bugs! I know, BUGS, how genius. But that is what sets Harrods apart, they are ahead of the trends and actually in fact the trend setters. What an outrageously daring and magnificent idea, a tree decor of bugs and creepy crawlies. I took inspiration from my local museum who have an iconic and well loved mini-beast taxidermy display in the Natural History collections within the Ulster Museum. The butterflies are dazzling and the beetles fascinating. I added iridescent sequins, gradating in colour tone across the wings and added intricate tinsel thread. My orange Monarch butterfly is my favourite, it sold out in days but there will be another drop. The blue of the Morpho Cypris and Anaxibia were so much fun to create, and I hope they add some magic to some fabulous trees out there. The colour palette and faux gems on my Dragonfly were drawn from an image of an Art Deco enamel brooch by Lalique. The Jewel Beetle was a step on from my scarab. We made our own pewter coloured rope style metallic thread twisted by hand as we could not find any of this particular colour on the market. I should mention what the themes are at this point - 'Curious
