Mickey Mouse's Freedom!

If you subscribe to our newsletters you will have read about our cute launch last January.

Exciting news in the world of design was that as of 1st January 2024 Mickey Mouse’s copyright had expired. The earliest versions of the cartoon characters which were shown in the ‘Steamboat Willie’ film were now in the public domain and free for all to use. Christmas decorations are a great way to add some nostalgia to your Christmas tree so I thought a Mickey Mouse captured in my signature style of champagne gold and silver sparkles on a classic natural oatmeal linen would be gorgeous. It is indeed a novelty, a parody, a re-work of this classic gem - but not being one to want to infringe on anybody’s IP, we have of course reached out to his original owners, as a collaboration would be most welcome.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing my favourite clips of Mickey Mouse cartoons to my young sons, Finn and Axel, on my phone, ‘Steamboat Willie’ has come in handy waiting impatiently in Christmas shopping queues and the odd doctor’s appointment waiting room. We don’t want to ‘take the biscuit’ so we’ve only released a handful of these cuties, a limited edition of 25 (unless Disney come calling), so snap one up if he floats your boat.

I’ve some cute pics to share of Finn making a great batch of cookies for his Mickey Mouse loving mummy, in the hope that I might take him to Disneyland some day… I’m hoping my linen decoration will do for now. And here’s a snap of me in the mid-80s sporting a much loved Mickey Mouse pyjama set, checking in on my Grandmother’s cocker spaniel ‘Rex’ in his kitchen unit hideout.

Keep your eyes peeled for Minnie…
