Michelin Chef Alex Greene X Katie Larmour Linen 2024
I was so thrilled to design a bespoke Christmas decoration as a collaboration with Northern Irish Michelin Starred chef and Great British Menu finalist Alex Greene. The pressure was on, I needed a high end decoration for a top level chef. Alex rose to fame on The Great British Menu, and it was his star piece ‘The Incredible Edible Book’ desert that I recreated in miniature with Irish Linen.
Alex’s creation comprises of layers of coconut parfait, yuzu gel, chocolate ganache, coffee jelly and tuile pages encased in a printed rice paper ‘book cover’ - very cool! Inspired by ‘The Incredible Book Eating Boy’ by Belfast author Oliver Jeffers as the competition’s theme was children’s literature.
It was certainly a challenge as there is so much detail in the design, I was particularly pleased we captured Oliver’s name using sparkly soft thread embroidery at the top.
Business duo Alex and Bronagh have revamped The Buck’s Head in Dundrum, County Down, with added luxury, artistry, decor and of course world class food. As a family we love to day trip nearby in Murlough Beach (a National Trust) spot, climb up Dundrum Castle, visit ‘daddy’s golf club’ grounds at Royal County Down and then fetch some gourmet pre-made dinner from Alex’s fresh produce shop ‘Fish & Farm’ on Newcastle’s Main Street along the promenade to devour back home - my boy’s favourite is the fish pie! Loved by locals and tourists alike, it is so wonderful to have been part of their story for it’s first Christmas.
