Titanic Museum Belfast!! One of our Magnificent stockists

When we had a successful day at a ‘meet the makers/designers/local small businesses’ at ‘Titanic Belfast’, pre-covid, we were thrilled. Unfortunately weeks later the world was hit by lockdown and the magnificent museum was shut. Now finally our unique collection of little all-year-round ‘Christmas’ decorations, created from salvage Irish Linen, have hit its gift shop floor. It’s a major addition to our stockist list, being one of the most visited tourist attractions in Northern Ireland. The impressive building is absolutely huge and sits on the former site of ‘Harland & Wolff’s’ shipyard where the Titanic itself was built. The exhibition tells of its entire story, including the part that Irish Linen had to play. Alongside shipbuilding, the Irish Linen industry was also booming in Belfast around the same time back in the day, and so our Irish Linen pieces on display - and available to buy in the accompanying gift shop - is such a lovely link. Here are some facts for you - there were tablecloths, aprons, 45,000 napkins and 18,000 bed sheets on board, all of luxury, locally made and world-renowned Irish Linen, and as there were no wash facilities, the mammoth ship carried all the linen for the voyage with her, which was then dried after use, stored and taken ashore for laundering when the ship docked. Like many materials and items sourced for the ship’s interior, these big quantities were also made right here in Belfast. Look out for some interesting photos within the exhibition detailing its crisp white appearance popping up in bedrooms and dining salons in all classes of the fascinating ship. We are thrilled to be an extension of this story. On a personal note I had great great grandparents on both sides who worked in the shipyards, so it’s really lovely to have designed some pieces for this place of celebration. Enjoy the exhibition and take home a little piece of Belfast’s history with you.
